Our History

On December 15, 1981, 25 senior-aged men met in Roseville, Minnesota for the purpose of creating a new Kiwanis club. This event resulted in an official Charter as a Golden K Club from Kiwanis International, with the Charter officially awarded on February 27, 1982.

Some of the members came from an existing Kiwanis North Suburban St. Paul Club and the new Golden K Club was launched with the same name: the Kiwanis North Suburban Golden K, St. Paul. Club membership grew rapidly, and the group soon became well known for its community service.

In 1987 Kiwanis International, by overwhelming vote of its members, opened membership to women for the first time. Membership rosters of clubs all over the world soon reflected the new reality, bringing a new dynamism to the organization.

Our Golden K club began making scholarships available to graduating seniors from local high schools in 2005. In 2024 six such scholarships were provided, marking a total of 61 scholarship awards since the inaugural year of the club’s scholarship program.

The name of our club remained unchanged until 2021, at which point the North Suburban Golden K Club became the Northeast Metro Golden K Club, inspired by a goal of expanding membership as well as community service.

The Northeast Metro Golden K Club remains a vital force in our community today, providing opportunities for meaningful service to children/youth/and families, forging lasting friendships, and promoting lifetime learning while having fun along the way.
